Clearwater Police are investigating a fatal motorcycle accident that happened on Memorial Causeway Saturday night.
Officials say the driver, Justin Asmundo, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash between Island Way and the roundabout in the eastbound lanes. Traffic was blocked for several hours following the accident.
According to witnesses, Asmundo was driving well above the 30 miles per hour posted speed limit in a reckless manner. Upon changing lanes and going airborne over a small bridge at excessive speed, Asmundo lost control of the vehicle, striking the median curb, ejecting from the motorcycle, and impacting a small tree in the median.
The roadway was partially closed during the investigation, but all lanes have since reopened.
