CLEARWATER, Fla. - The Florida Highway Patrol says a Clearwater woman died early Thursday morning after she was struck by a car.
The driver fled and his car was later found abandoned. Officers eventually located the driver who could face charges.
28-year-old Jo-Ann Robinson of Clearwater was traveling north on her bicycle in the outside turn lane on US 19 near 298th Avenue North when she was overtaken and hit by the driver of a 2005 Hyundai. She was thrown to the road and the driver fled the scene.
A short time later, she was hit by by a 2012 Mercedes. That driver remained at the scene.
Robinson was taken to Countryside Hospital where she died.
Overnight, FHP troopers and Pinellas County deputies located the driver of the Hyundai. He's identified as Christopher M. Jones, 24, of Tarpon Springs.
The investigation is ongoing and charges against Jones are pending.
