LUTZ, Fla. - Newborn Kaia Packer is perfect, right down to her little fingers. Her big sisters can't kiss her enough. Her mother, Tiffani, can't hold her closely enough. "It was a real miracle to us and a real blessing," said Tiffani.

She and her husband Rand say they have been blessed three times before with two girls and a little boy. This time, Tiffani said, they wanted the birth to be different. "I wanted to feel natural pain, as weird as that may sound."

At 34, she wanted to labor at home as long as possible. The plan was to wait until the final minutes, and have doctors at University Community Hospital finish the job.

But little Kaia had other plans. "As we were going out the front door," said Tiffani, "I got another contraction, and realized: this was not just another contraction."

Right there in the hallway, Kaia decided on her debut.

Daddy Rand had just rushed back in to the house after turning on the car. As Tiffani said, "In he came a foot from the door, and out she came 5 minutes later."

But there was no time to celebrate. Rand said it was crazy. "As the baby came out, the umbilical cord tightened up a little bit."

Rand reacted quickly. "To be honest with you, it was such a demanding situation, I really had to perform rather than really think."

Tifanni sang her husband's praises, "I thought he did incredible. He was so calm and so patient. I did my part. Now he had to do his part to get her breathing and going so we could keep her."

Down to her tiny fingers, the Packer family marvels at their 7 pound miracle. They wouldn't change a thing about her. Except maybe the way she arrived.

"It was not the exact plan. I don't know if I would do that again," Tiffani said with another laugh. "Although natural, we did not want to go primitive!"
