CARROLLWOOD, Fla. - A group of Carrollwood residents are putting up a fight against a Florida development company wanting to a rezone commercial property to build a new Wal-Mart on Dale Mabry.
The grassroots organization, Carrollwood Against Rezoning, began protesting at 7:30 Wednesday morning at the corner of Floyd Road and Dale Mabry, the location where Brightwork wants to build a WalMart and a Wawa convenience store.
This is one of many protests the group plans to host before an October 15 rezoning hearing, a spokesperson for the group said.
The group has been airing their grievances with the project since they learned about it several months ago. The hearing was originally planned for July 23, but got pushed back to October 15 at 6:00 p.m.
The protests are planned for every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 7:30 – 9:00 a.m. until the hearing takes place. The group asks that all attendees joining the protest wear red.
