TAMPA, Fla. - A retired Hillsborough County detention deputy died in a head-on collision Saturday afternoon.
85-year-old Wade Weatherman of Tampa was traveling northbound on North Boulevard near Noreast Lake Drive around 5 p.m. when his 2005 Chevrolet Colorado crossed the center line, according to deputies. His vehicle struck a 2006 Toyota Corolla driven by 30-year-old Karen Cozart of Tampa.
Weatherman was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital, where he died. Cozart and her two passengers were treated on the scene for minor injuries.
Officials say it is unknown if a medical condition contributed to the crash, and are continuing the investigation.
Weatherman worked for the sheriff's office from 1970 until he retired in 1986.
