TAMPA, Fla. - Local expectant mothers may start to see additional warnings about the dangers of fetal alcohol poisoning at their favorite restaurants and other venues that serve alcohol if a new proposed ordinance passes, Patch.com reports.
For the last two decades, Hillsborough has mandated that businesses post signs warning that it’s illegal to serve alcohol to anyone under 21 years old.
The board of county commissioners is now considering a new ordinance that would add more warnings to the signage, including information about Fetal Alcohol Syndrome.
On Wednesday, the board voted to have a public hearing on the ordinance on October 17.
While some support the measure, one business owner says she doesn’t feel comfortable telling a pregnant woman she can’t get a glass of wine.
