TAMPA - A man was killed after getting hit by a CSX freight train in Hillsborough County Wednesday night.
According to the sheriff’s office, the train was traveling at 40 mph, east of the Hwy 301 near Hwy 60, when the engineer noticed a man walking near the train tracks minutes before 6 p.m.
The engineer blew the horn and the man moved away from the tracks, but for unknown reasons he turned back toward the tracks at the last minute and was hit by the train.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officials are working to identify the victim and notify his next of kin.
