TAMPA - An inmate died today after being rushed to the hospital, said Hillsborough County Sheriff Office.
Randall Willis, 62, charged with first degree murder, died today.
According to officials, Willis collapsed at Falkenburg jail's housing unit. Jail guards attended to Willis immediately and transferred him to Tampa General Hospital for further medical attention.
Willis later died at TGH.
Willis was arrested on March 20, 2012 after he reportedly called 911 and told dispatchers that he had just killed his wife, Gilda Willis, 62. Willis claimed that his wife was terminally ill.
Deputies found Willis outside of this home on 4316 Clewis Avenue with the body of his wife inside.
Willis later told deputies that he had shot his wife two times, once in the chest and another in the head.
It was believed that he had shot his wife due to financial issues and her terminal illness.
He had plead not guilty to murder charges on April 10 and was awaiting a trial date.
