HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. - A Hillsborough man arrested for driving under the influence Saturday morning may be mistaken for major league baseball player, Jose Canseco, but that’s because he is his twin, Osvaldo Canseco, better known as Ozzie.
The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said Osvaldo was arrested at Dale Mabry and Colby Road at 2:13 a.m.
When deputies tested his blood alcohol level, he got a score between .109 and .108, well above the .08 legal limit, according to the Sheriff's Office.
Canseco had a brief career in major league baseball and a long career in the minors and independent leagues, from 1983-2001 both as a pitcher and position player, according to the website, baseball-reference.com .
Canseco appeared on an episode of VH1's The Surreal Life on Season 5 as a José Canseco impersonator. At the end of the program, it was revealed that he was José's twin brother.
Osvaldo’s current occupation is listed as a baseball director at a sports center located on Hillsborough Avenue.
He was also arrested in 2003 after a Charlotte County sheriff's deputy allegedly found illegal anabolic steroids in his vehicle during a traffic stop. Authorities said he was also driving with a revoked license.
He pleaded guilty to a possession charge.
Jose Canseco hit 462 home runs in his major league career, though Ozzie never hit one in the big leagues.
Both brothers also had pleaded guilty to charges related to a 2001 nightclub brawl.
Ozzie has been charged with a DUI and his bond is set at $500.
