HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY - A driver was killed and a 3-year-old injured in a crash that closed down the southbound lanes of I-75 south of State Road 56 for a time late Tuesday morning.
The crash occurred around 11 a.m. when the driver of a Mack dump truck merged into the outside center lane of I-75 directly into the path of a 2012 Hyundai, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The car collided with the rear of the truck and eventually came to rest on the inside shoulder.
The female driver of the Hyundai and the 1-year-old, who was in the rear in a car seat, were airlifted to St. Joseph's Hospital.
The driver, who has not been identified, died. The child was being treated for possible injuries.
The crash remains under investigation.
