ANTIOCH, Fla. - A 17-year-old shot and killed his father Saturday night trying to protect his mother, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.
The teen, who ABC Action News is not identifying, called 911 just after 10 p.m. to report the shooting.
When deputies arrived at 7427 Burnt Barn Avenue in Antioch, they found 36-year-old Christopher Thorpe dead in the master bedroom of the home.
A group of family members and friends were outside around a bonfire when 35-year-old Jill Thorpe went inside the house, followed by her husband.
The couple got into an argument that turned physical when Christopher Thorpe started beating his wife, according to deputies. The altercation moved from the living room to the bedroom, where officials say Thorpe was strangling his wife when their son entered the room. The teen was armed with a handgun, and fired several shots at his father.
Officials say Christopher Thorpe died at the scene.
Jill Thorpe was struck by a bullet in the right thigh. She was taken to Lakeland Regional Hospital for her injuries.
No charges have been filed in the shooting. The teen was released into the custody of his mother, according to the sheriff's office.
