RIVERVIEW, fla. - A Riverview man was arrested and charged early Friday morning in a hit-and-run crash that left a woman in serous condition.
The victim, 33-year-old Diana Pena had run out of gas around 1:30 Thursday morning, according to a sheriff's statement. She was crossing Boyette Road to go to a gas station when she was struck.
A passerby saw her lying in the road and called 911. Pena was taken to Tampa General Hospital in serious condition.
Investigators determined that vehicle debris in the road came from a Toyota Corolla.
24 hours later, deputies located the suspect vehicle, a gray Corolla, at a home on Tranquility Lake Circle in Riverview. The front of the vehicle was covered with a sheet, according to investigators, to hide damage consistent with Wednesday's crash.
Matthew Ryan Fox was arrested and charged with Leaving the Scene of a Crash with Injury.
He was released on $2,000 bond later Friday morning, according to jail records.
Pena was last listed in stable condition.
