HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. - Detectives are looking for a burglary suspect who targeted a house on Lake Magdalene Blvd. Tuesday afternoon.
According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s office, two men tried breaking into the home, but a 19-year-old was there alone and quickly called 911.
One suspect took off in a car, the other suspect, Jose Rodriquez, tried to swim to safety in the middle of Lake Magdalene.
“I got a feeling he probably thought it was land, but the water looked like it was about waist deep,” said Cpt. Rick Hernandez with the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s office.
Our cameras rolled as deputies pulled Rodriquez into a boat after an hour of under-the-water-hide-and-seek.
“He kept ducking under the water,” Hernandez said.
Action Air 1 was over the scene during the search and captured Rodriquez being handcuffed.
Rodriquez is charged with burglary of an occupied building.
Deputies continue to search for the other suspect, which makes neighbors in the area a bit on edge.

President Barack Obama shook hands with Cuban President Raul Castro Tuesday at a memorial service for Nelson Mandela, a simple gesture that, while promptly downplayed by the White House, created a furor in Washington among critics of the Cuban regime.
