TAMPA - New developments have happened in the case of a Hillsborough County School bus driver accused of aggravated child abuse.
Tampa police say Stephanie Wilkerson, with the district since 2008, kicked an 8-year-old special-needs child to the ground in September, causing her to fracture her ankle.
Wilkerson made her first court appearance Friday morning.
The judge let her go without posting bond, as she awaits trial.
Wilkerson lives at home with her mother and grown children.
Officials confirm that there is video of Wilkerson kicking the child to the ground, but they haven’t released the tape.
Police say just minutes before it happened, the little girl hit and slapped Wilkerson because Wilkerson told her it was not her turn to get off the school bus.
Wilkerson is currently on paid suspension from the school district.
Come Nov 13, the full school board can vote to keep her on paid suspension, unpaid, or possibly fire her.
