Anti-American lyrics rapped by PSY in 2004 causing controversy

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. - International sensation PSY performed at University Mall, in Hillsborough County this afternoon, but, tonight, his reputation is being met with controversy. The singer behind the YouTube smash song "Gangnam Style" is apologizing for anti-American sentiments he used in a 2004 performance. He says the song in question was part of a deeply emotional reaction to the war in Iraq and the killing of two Korean schoolgirls.

It's called, Dear America, written by south Korean rock band N.E.X.T. PSY was one of the performers.

The 2004 song makes Linda Collins angry. She works at the mall and refuses to support PSY. Collins said, "After he said what he said about us? Why would I give him any kind of respect? It doesn't matter if it was a few years down the road!"

In Dear America, PSY says, "Kill those [expletive] Yankees, who have been torturing Iraqi captives and those who ordered them to torture." It goes on to say, "Daughters, mothers, daughters-in-law and fathers."

The singer has since issued an apology saying in part, "I understand the sacrifices American servicemen and women have made to protect freedom and democracy in my country and around the world."
    
Shatiah Jackson is a PSY fan and still stands by him. Jackson said, "As long as he apologized about it. You know. I mean it really doesn't change anything. I still like his music."

And Shatiah is not alone. Even though PSY arrived half an hour late and only sang his one hit song, it didn't matter to die hard fans.

Gaylen Granby is a high school student and researched PSY for a dance class project. Granby said, "I heard about this and the first thing I did was text my best friend. I was like, 'we're going to see PSY! This is so cool!"

Dascha and Julie Dunn came with their mother to see the concert. Julie Dunn said, "I'm like obsessed with him. Like he's my wallpaper on my phone and my ring tone."

The original and the English translations of Dear America are getting a lot of attention online. They've already received tens of thousands of hits on YouTube.
