SEFFNER, Fla. - James Hefner says he was kicking back Monday night reading one of his knife books and feeling pretty good. "I had already drank like nine beers. I was just relaxing. You know what I'm saying. I was relaxing."
But around 9 pm that relaxation ended when he says his mobile home shook with the force of an earthquake. "Actually it sounded sort of like the Incredible Hulk smashing a mountain," said Hefner.
James walked out of his bedroom to find a massive tree had crashed down right over the kitchen table.
Hefner's disabled mother was in the tree's path sitting on the living room couch. But the tree got caught on a window and didn't break through the roof over her head.
No one was hurt, but there was still the matter of that big tree. Thankfully for the family, EMS USA is right next door. They are an engineering company with plenty of heavy machinery.
Herman Scott drove over and helped get the tree off the home with a front loader. He did it free of charge. "It's the neighborly thing. Just lucky nobody got hurt. I had the equipment and he had the need," said Scott.
The family is still waiting to see if the home will be repaired or if they'll have to find somewhere else to live. The owner is in the military and currently serving overseas in Germany.
