SEFFNER - A pair of Florida couples have been charged with running a swingers club out of a Seffner home and illegally serving alcohol.
Hillsborough detectives, along with agents from Florida State Beverage shut down the club, located at 11326 Brightridge Drive, Friday following a six week investigation.
Investigators say Steven Bowers, 55, and his wife Cynthia 44, owned and operated the club, while 55-year-old Ricky Zabala and his 54-year-old wife Pamela assisted the Bowers when they were out of town or needed a night off.
The house was completely converted to a sexually orientated swingers club, detectives said, with all three bedrooms lined wall to wall with beds while the living room was equipped with a dancing pole, a spanking table and large screen televisions playing adult pornographic films.
The Bowers, of St. Petersburg, and Zabalas, from Orlando, were allegedly charging customers various fees to enter the business, depending on their relationship status. Couples were allowed in for free, detectives said, while single men and women were charged.
People were allowed to bring their own bottle of alcohol and share it with others, investigators said.
The business operated Wednesday through Sunday during the hours of 6:00 pm until early morning hours.
Detectives reported seeing as many as 50 people in the club at one time.
All four suspects are charged with operating a sexually oriented Business without a license and operating a bottle club w/out proper zoning and licensing.
A neighbor's complaint sparked the investigation.
