BRANDON, Fla. - Hillsborough County officials are examining a possible sinkhole behind a shopping center in Brandon.
An official source tells ABC Action News on Sunday night that the hole may be dozens of feet deep, but it was not yet known if the hole was caused by erosion from a nearby retention pond or if the hole was an actual sinkhole development.
The hole was 5- to 6-feet-wide at the surface.
A viewer who asked not to be identified told ABC Action News by phone that she still saw crews near the corner of South Valrico Road & Crown Park Drive with large lights and an area blocked off, hours after the hole was discovered Sunday afternoon.
There are homes across the street from the retention pond, but no homes were reported to be in danger.
