GROVERLAND, Fla. - A Sumter County teenager was killed and three others were hurt in an overnight crash in Groverland.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, 17-year-old Clayton Joiner was driving on State Road 50 east of SR-471 just before 5 a.m.
His 1996 Ford Ranger left the paved road and went onto the shoulder, before Joiner was able to get the car back on the road, troopers said.
The car left the road a 2nd time and overturned, hitting a tree.
One of his passengers, Talon Proctor, also 17, died at the scene. Two other passengers Kelly Ann Davis, 16, and Chadrick Anderson, 17, were taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center.
Davis suffered serious injuries, while Anderson is listed in critical condition, according to FHP.
Joiner was taken to Southlake Hospital with serious injuries. Neither Proctor nor Anderson was wearing their seatbelts, investigators said.
They are still investigating whether alcohol played any role in the accident.
