SPRING HILL, Fla. - A 17-yearold stabbed his mother's boyfriend after a physical altercation Sunday evening, Hernando County Sheriff's deputies say.

The stabbing happened at 10036 Hayes Street in Spring Hill.

Deputies say tension between the two men grew throughout the day, starting with a verbal argument over family matters.

The teen left the home where they all live and later returned not too long after.

The boyfriend, 39-year-old David Floyd, and his girlfriend's son got into a physical altercation after the teen returned to the home.

Deputies say the teen went into the kitchen and grabbed a knife and then stabbed Floyd in the chest.

Floyd was taken to a nearby hospital with life threatening injuries. He later died of his injuries.

The teen has been charged with first degree murder and the investigation is now a homicide.

Three other kids were at the house at the time of the stabbing, but they were not injured.
