SPRING HILL, Fla. - The Pasco County Sheriff’s Office identified the pilot killed in Sunday morning’s ultra-light plane crash that happened at U.S 41 and State Road 52.
Officials say 53-year-old William Athey took off from Pilot County Airport, in Spring Hill, to try out his new aircraft.
Witnesses said that Athey was trying to come in for a landing on the airport’s runway, but started to descend too soon.
The small aircraft got tangled in the power lines causing power outages in the area.
Officials said that Athey was unresponsive when they arrived, and rescue responders had to work to free the plane from the lines.
Athey was the only fatality in the crash.
