SPRING HILL, Fla. - A Pasco County jury has found Stanley Eckard guilty of second-degree murder in the 2010 death of his brother.
Investigators said Eckard, 24, murdered his then 19-year-old brother, Sean Eckard, in June that year and buried his body in the backyard of his parents' Spring Hill home.
When the trial began, Assistant State Attorney Pete Magrino told the jury that Stanley Eckard tried to cover his tracks by telling detectives several conflicting stories about what happened to his brother that day.
Eckard's defense attorney said the entire fight was a fight between brothers, and not one over a girl as prosecutors claimed.
The defense told the jury that Sean Eckard was killed in an accident, but made no excuses for the backyard burial that followed.
Stanley Eckard rejected a previous plea deal and now faces a maximum of life in prison.
