SPRING HILL, Fla. -
UPDATE: Thomas Brocato, the suspected gunman who shot a neighbor on Siam Drive, was found dead inside his home, the Hernando County Sheriff's Office confirms.
The suspect took his own life.
Officials say 58-year-old Brocato shot his neighbor following an argument Tuesday morning. Several officials were at the scene since 9 a.m., trying to make contact with the suspect.
There were indications that Brocato was inside his home on Siam Drive, but the suspect didn't respond to deputies' multiple attempts to communicate.
At 1:20 p.m., a SWAT team deployed chemicals into the suspect's home, but noticed a strong gasoline odor within the residence.
At 2:30 p.m., deputies entered Brocato's house and he was found dead on the second floor. It appears Brocato was doused himself in gasoline, then shot himself with a gun.
The lockdowns that were placed on two nearby schools, Spring Hill Elementary and Challenger K-8, are now lifted.
Residents who were affected in the neighborhood can now resume normal activity.
The investigation is ongoing.
