RIDGE MANOR, Fla. - Hernando deputies received an unusual K9 call on Monday.

A man called saying his landlord claimed he was run over by a dog. The story seemed odd to the tenant which prompted his call to the Sheriff's Office.

Christopher Bishop said he crawled underneath his pickup truck while the engine was running to check for transmission oil leaks late Sunday.

He left the truck in neutral with the driver’s side door open when he scooted under the truck.

Bishop said his bulldog, named Tassey,  jumped into the front seat. He told detectives the dog is energetic and starting jumping around inside the truck. He believed Tassey bumped into the shift knob throwing the truck into gear.  The truck then ran over him.

Bishop said he managed to get up and stop the pickup before it hit the fence next to his Ridge Manor home.

He went inside his home, but the pain became too great.  He spoke to his tenant, Steve Hargrove, and asked him to get medical help early Monday morning.

When detectives spoke to Bishop about his delay in getting medical aid, he told them he doesn’t like doctors but the pain was too much so he had to get help.

Bishop was taken to Pasco Regional Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
