HERNANDO COUNTY, Fla - Hernando County deputies say a grandfather used a wooden chair leg to beat a man Wednesday night.
Kenneth Duane Cole, 72, of 9550 Purdy Street, Spring Hill, is now facing aggravated battery charges.
According to deputies, Cole drove over to a home in the 7000 block of Merrick Lane to pick up his granddaughter. When he arrived, the alleged victim told Cole his granddaughter was not going to leave.
An arrest report states the alleged victim did not physically stop Cole's granddaughter from leaving but only verbalized that the girl did not want to leave home.
Cole reportedly became upset and grabbed a wooden chair leg from his car, which was 16 inches in length, and chased the victim 100 yards down the street and then struck him on the left side of his head. Deputies say the victim suffered a one and a half inch laceration and golf ball sized contusion.
The victim had to be transported to an area hospital for treatment.
Cole told deputies he did not feel threatened by the man he hit and was never in fear of him, an arrest report states.
Cole is being held in the Hernando County Jail on $5,000 bond.
He is slated to appear in court on October 1st.
