CRYSTAL RIVER, Fla. - Citrus County detectives say they shut down an illegal pain clinic at in Crystal River on Thursday. Dr. Daniel McIntyre, 57, of St. Petersburg, was arrested and charged with two counts of trafficking in oxycodone with a bond of $200,000.
The Florida Department of Health put an emergency suspension on McIntire’s license Thursday morning.
Deputies say McIntyre has been running the clinic since last February, but it's not the first time McIntire has been in trouble with the law. He was arrested in December of 2011 in connection with a raid at the Harbour Medical Group.
Investigators say his clinic has dispensed at least 1.5 million pills worth $12 million.
