BROOKSVILLE, Fla - A Brooksville man allegedly lit a tablecloth on fire and a newspaper in an attempt to burn down his home while his family was inside, deputies say.
George Rand, 49, is facing arson, assault and tampering with a witness charges.
Hernando County deputies say they were called out to 10294 Cedervue Avenue in Brooksville Thursday night. Once there, deputies say they heard Rand state that he was going to burn the house down.
According to the three victims, Rand was intoxicated and yelling at everyone in the house.
An arrest affidavit states that Rand threatened all three people and told them he 'was going to burn the house down and there was nothing they could do.'
Deputies say Rand lit a tablecloth and newspaper on fire with a lighter inside the home with no regard for his family's safety.
Rand is also accused of taking away phones from all three victims so they could not call for help.
Rand is being held without bond in the Hernando County jail.
