Mike McCallister,58, of Plant City is a retired Colonel and has worked in the Center for Operations, Plans and Policy at USSOCOM in the War on Terror. He embraces his political inexperience as offering a fresh option to the voters.

He worked in health care for over 25 years and worked with every major hospital and medical school in Florida. He emphasizes the importance of radical transparency in government.

He wants to do away with the winner-take-all voting scheme and replace it with “Instant Runoff Voting” and “Proportional Representation”. He calls the War on Drugs "a war on the poor," He believes that Florida prisons are growing faster than any other state because of deinstitutionalization of the mentally disabled, drug prohibition, and minimum sentencing laws.

He wants to revamp Florida’s educational system. McCallister supports rewarding good teachers and schools, but not at the expense of the students. He feels that students are often taught to score on FCAT, then do poorly on ACT and SAT, and he wants to put a stop to it.
