KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Rep.Todd Akins is no stranger to making controversial comments about women, as he's proved with his questionable science theory on “legitimate” rape victims and their body’s ability to prevent pregnancy post-rape back in August.
Now, some say he’s added more fuel to the fire by saying that freedom is the reason employers should be able to pay women less than man at a campaign stop in Kansas City, Mo. during his "Common Sense" tour, the Huffington Post reports.
When he was asked by a man in the audience why he voted against the Fair Pay Act of 2009, his response wasn’t too favorable for female gender.
"I believe in free enterprise. I don't think the government should be telling people what you pay and what you don't pay," Akin said at a town hall meeting Monday.
On average, women continue to make 77 cents to every dollar a man makes.
