So this is democracy in the Facebook era.
Rather than choose his own name for a jobs bill he intends to file next week, U.S. Rep. Tom Rooney, R-Tequesta, hosted a contest on his Facebook page .
First, I'll share the choices that didn't win the popular vote:
End Crony Capitalism
Remove Payroll Taxes
Open the Door for Jobs Act
Economic Growth and Job Creation Act
Social Welfare Maximization Act
End the Federal Reserve
Do Away With Health Care Bill
Three Steps for American Jobs Act
Removing Barriers to Jobs Act
Freedom to Create Jobs Act
And the winner, which Rooney announced earlier this week: The Restore America Act. A majority of Facebook voters -- 43, to be precise -- settled on this name for the bill.
There are a lot of things I don't love about our society's social-networking obsession. Contests to name legislation before that legislation has been revealed might top the list.
Now, excuse me. I'm going to post this blog entry on my Facebook page .
