When it comes to Valentine's Day, the romantic poet in all of us finally lets loose.

From the child who brings home a crayon-written poem to Mom, to the smartest folks of all time, like Albert Einstein, romance generates a love-sick muse so often expressed in words.

Speaking of Einstein, here's his scientific take on romance: "Gravitation is not responsible for people falling in love," he said.

When it comes to love sayings, there are plenty. Just name your category.

Here are some memorable sayings under the influence of Cupid's arrow, courtesy of Quote Garden :

"Oh, if it be to choose and call thee mine, love, thou art every day my Valentine!" – Thomas Hood

"When love is not madness, it is not love." – Pedro Calderon de la Barca

"I claim there ain't another saint as great as Valentine." – Ogden Nash

"Love is a smoke made with the fume of sighs." – William Shakespeare

Celebrities often weigh in, too. Like these collected on About.com :

"For it was not into my ear you whispered, but into my heart. It was not my lips you kissed, but my soul." – Judy Garland

"If you live to be hundred, I hope I live to be hundred minus one day, so I never have to live without you." – Winnie The Pooh

"If you want the rainbow, you have to put up with a little rain!" – Dolly Parton

For some really deep love sayings, Brainy Quote offers these:

"Where there is great love, there are always wishes." – Willa Cather

"If you press me to say why I loved him, I can say no more than because he was he, and I was I." – Michel de Montaigne

"Love is being stupid together." – Paul Valery
