President Barack Obama will deliver his first State of the Union address of his second term. Insiders say he will outline an economic blueprint with many of the elements Americans have heard before -- embracing manufacturing, energy development and education.
As the President speaks, many of the faces looking down from the galleries in the House of Representatives will be those of Americans who have been thrust into the politics of gun violence. The first lady will be sitting with the parents of a Chicago teenager who was killed just days after performing at the president's inauguration.
A person familiar with Obama's State of the Union address said he will announce that 34,000 U.S. troops will be home from Afghanistan one year from Tuesday. That's about half the U.S. troops currently in Afghanistan. The decision marks the next phase in Obama's plans to end the U.S.-led war in Afghanistan by the end of 2014.
