PAYNES PRAIRIE, Fla. - The troublesome Paynes Prairie area of Interstate 75 southbound, just south of Gainesville, has reopened Saturday evening after being forced to close due to multiple crashes during bad weather moving through the area.
According to a Florida Highway Patrol official, at least one person was ejected from a vehicle involved in one of multiple crash scenes. The victim was transported as a "trauma alert."
There were several multiple vehicle crash scenes in the area, but FHP officials said the roadway was reopened before 6 p.m.
Paynes Prairie is the site of several deadly pileups when a smoke-and-fog mix over the interstate triggered near-zero visibility on Jan. 29, 2012.
