NEW YORK - Residents of storm-battered communities in New Jersey and New York are bracing for a nor'easter, a week and a half after Sandy devastated the region.

Some Jersey shore communities are issuing mandatory evacuations for Wednesday, and in New York, police are using loudspeakers to urge residents in low-lying areas to evacuate. New York City was also closing parks, playgrounds and beaches and ordering construction sites to be secured.

Weather experts say the nor'easter expected to hit the region starting later Wednesday could be weaker than initially anticipated.

But it will still carry wind gusts that could bring down tree limbs weakened by Sandy and storm surge that could cause minor flooding and erode beaches that have already lost dunes
