A majority of Americans will not use all of their vacation days by the end of the year, according to a CNN report.
The average worker has 14 vacation days, but only uses 12, totaling up to 226 million unused days between all employed Americans.
But why? According to Expedia, travelers say they choose working over frolicking because they can’t afford to travel, and another reason is they didn’t plan ahead.
But a reason that trumps expense and poor planning skills is job security.
"People feel that they need face time in the office," Stuart Rubinstein, managing director at TD Ameritrade said.
"They worry that being out of the office might make them next on the list."
