BALTIMORE (CNN) - A fire tore through a home in northeast Baltimore early Thursday morning, pushing a man to jump from a second-story window, and killing four children and a grandmother.

Firefighters rushed to the home about 2 a.m. and found it engulfed in flames, Baltimore city officials said in a news statement. When they entered the home, they saw a man jumping from a window to escape the intense heat.

The man was taken to a hospital.

In addition to the man, a firefighter fell from the second floor of the home, crushed through the first floor and landed on another firefighter in the basement.

Both firefighters were also rushed to a hospital, officials said.

The bodies of the five victims were found on the second floor, a fire spokesman said.

There were 10 people living in the home, CNN affiliate WJZ reported.

Authorities were trying to sort out the relationship of the victims early Thursday as stunned family members stood outside the charred home.
