Study found connection between frequent Facebook users and weight gain

If you’re packing on the pounds, your Facebook habit may be to blame, according to new research.

The Journal of Consumer Research says while 5 minutes of Facebook can briefly raise your self-esteem, it reduces your self-control, which leads people to indulge more.

Some 470 people were surveyed about their Internet and Facebook use, along with their health and financial behaviors. Heavy Facebook users had a BMI (body mass index) of 26, while infrequent users had a BMI of 24.

Frequent users also had higher instances of binge eating.
