While most diets require that you to cut out the sweets, researchers say eating dessert with breakfast every morning can help you drop the pounds.

The study, conducted by researchers from Tel Aviv University, followed people on strict low calorie diets --1,600 calories for men and 1,400 calories for women.

Participants in one group ate most of their calorie allotment during breakfast with a high-protein meal, accompanied by a cookie, donut or cake for dessert.

Members in the second group also had a high-protein meal, but it was low on carbs, and of course no dessert.

At the end of the diet, both groups dropped an average of 33 pounds.

But after the study was over, those that continued to eat dessert with breakfast lost an average of an additional 15 pounds.

The members of the other group regained an average of 22 pounds.
