OAHU, Hawaii - This week, a civil lawsuit has been filed against a popular pet grooming chain allegedly responsible for cutting of a dog’s ear and then gluing it back on before returning it to the owner, according to Hawaii News Now.
The incident happened in July when Gladys Kupuawi dropped her granddaughter’s dog off at a Petco in Oahu, Hawaii with a groomer.
A few days after picking up the dog, she was horrified to realize that a piece of the dog’s ear had been cut and re-glued back on. A veterian told the woman the dog’s ear could have been saved had it been treated earlier.
"I couldn't believe what they did," Kapuwai said. "I started crying because this is our baby, too, you know," she told Hawaii News Now.
Estelle Green, another plaintiff in the suit, said the tip of her dog’s tail was missing and its nails were bloody from being cut too low. Green’s husband, attorney Michael Green, said Petco didn’t seem to concerned about the incident.
"My dog, they offered another free grooming," Green said. "I guess they wanted to take off other body parts."
PetCo says they have launched an investigation on the claims made against them.
