BOSTON, Fla. - When Ryan Cordell told his daughters they needed one million Facebook likes to get a new puppy, he didn’t really think the girls stood a chance of getting that dog.

But in less than 24 hours, a photo on the girl’s Facebook page, Twogirlsandapuppy , received the millionth 'like' Tuesday.  As of Thursday morning, the photo had 1.5 million likes, according to ABC News.  ( http://abcn.ws/S4bII2 )

“I don’t know how it moved so quickly… We thought it’d top out at maybe 2,000 people,” Ryan’s wife, Evie Cordell said.

That’s why the Cordells told Cadence, 12, Emerson, 9, and their three younger brothers they agreed to those seemingly impossible conditions.

The children had been asking for a new dog after the family pet of 10 years died of cancer.

The girls got the idea to plead with their father through Facebook likes after reading about a family who got a new cat when the children won a wager to get 1,000 likes on a photo.

Cadence and the rest of her siblings took a photo of themselves holding a sign that read, “Hi World, We want a puppy. Our dad said we can get one if we get 1 million Likes. So LIKE this. He doesn’t think we can do it!”

Mom Evie helped create the Twogirlsandapuppy Facebook page Monday afternoon.  By midnight, the photo was 'liked' 1 million times.

The girls could hardly believe the good news when mom and dad told them the next morning. Now they’re on to their next challenge:  Finding a new dog.

They’re exploring adoption through a rescue shelter.
