IOWA - If you try to imagine the most benign offense that one could get arrested for, you’ve still most likely failed to guess that Iowa man, Christopher Anspach, spent 10 days in jail for overdue library books.
Anspach, 28, plead guilty to a misdemeanor theft charge Wednesday.
According to the Smoking Gun , Anspach, 28, checked out some 27 items, including books and other media worth $770.67, from the Newton Public Library earlier this year.
The library attempted to contact him with phone calls and certified mail about the overdue books, but Anspach allegedly never responded.
That’s when library officials turned the issue over to police and the city attorney.
In addition to being charged, Anspach must pay $625 to the library.
He is currently at the Jasper County Jail.
