TAMPA - The company involved in Thursday's six-vehicle pileup has a history of violations, including faulty and broken equipment, drivers without proper licenses, state law driver safety violations, size and weight transgressions and other traffic enforcement infractions.
ABC Action News obtained copies of every vehicle inspection report and records of every violation and citation issued to Ray Anthony International, LLC involving the company's trucks and its drivers.
How do you put all these reports involving this one company at locations around the state into context? The Florida Department of Motor Carrier Compliance said it does not rank trucking companies in terms of safety. We were instead referred to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, and their national database, SAFER - Safety And Fitness Electronic Records System at safersys.org to see how the company compares to others around the U.S.
According to the national database, over the last two years Ray Anthony International, LLC has had over 27 percent of its vehicles taken out of service, which is above the national average.
Over 9 percent of the company's drivers have also been taken out of service. Again, above the national average.
