Are you ever curious about the real lives of politicians, celebrities, local newsmakers and athletes? Who are their mentors and who would they really like to meet?
Each Tuesday, ABC Action News asks 10 questions of a Bay area leader or celebrity. They're fun questions that let you get to know the person.
This week we hear from Sgt. Steve Gaskins with the Florida Highway Patrol.
He is the face of the office in our area. Sgt. Gaskins serves as the public information officer.
Sgt. Gaskins was born in Texas and then raised in Virginia.
He then moved to Florida and attended FSU where he received a bachelors degree in criminal justice.
After college, he worked as a police officer for four years with the Tallahassee Police Department.
Gaskins then moved to the Florida Highway Patrol and has been with the agency for 13 years.
He was stationed in Fort Lauderdale, Madison, Tallahassee and then Tampa.
In 2002 he was promoted to Corporal and then a year later promoted to Sergeant and assigned to field operations.
When you read his 10 questions, you will see why the promotion was so significant in his life and a personal milestone.
Two years ago he was assigned to public affairs. I can say the Sergeant is on the top of his game. His job includes providing details to the media and journalist like myself.
Sgt. Gaskins is always quick to provide the information he can and is a true professional. I always feel we can reach out to him anytime and he is available to us so we can help serve the public in our media reports.
While Gaskins has seen a successful career in law enforcement, he will say his greatest success is being a father.
