TAMPA - Are you ever curious about the real lives of politicians, celebrities and athletes?
Who are their mentors and who would they really like to meet? What's in their fridge?
Each Tuesday, ABC Action News asks the same 10 questions of a bay area leader or celebrity. They're fun questions that let you get to know the person.
This week we are thrilled to hear from a familiar face here at ABC Action News: Deiah Riley!
I can tell you, Deiah's smile not only brightens your morning, but everyone here in the newsroom as well!
Deiah joined the team in 2003. It was a homecoming of sorts. Deiah was born and raised in the Panhandle. She graduated from Bethune Cookman College in Daytona Beach.
Work took her to Montgomery, Mobile, Phoenix and Atlanta before finally returning to Florida.
But before becoming a journalist, Deiah worked closely with Santa Claus.
You many want to tell the kids, she may have the inside track on St. Nick!
1.) What is your all time favorite movie or song?
The Birdcage. I've watched that movie too many times to count and still laugh every time!
2.) Do you have a Smartphone? If so, what's your favorite app?
Yes, I have a smartphone: A Blackberry Storm. I complain about it constantly but I'm too cheap to get a new one. When it works, I like Facebook and Pandora.
3.) Who do you count as your mentor(s)?
My Mom & Dad! They're the best! They raised me to trust the power of Faith, to cherish the love of family, and to value and nurture the gift of friendship.
4.) What was your very first job?
I was one of Santa's elves at the mall in my hometown one Christmas when I was in high school.
5.) If you could change one thing about yourself what would it be?
I'd love to be able to carry a tune. I'm pretty sure I'm tone deaf.
6.) What do you consider your greatest success?
Being a mother! My two daughters, Riley & Ryan remind me every day of how blessed I am!
7.) Tell us something about you most people don't know?
That I was an elf at Christmas time. Only people in my hometown knew about that one.
8.) If you could have dinner with any three people, living or dead, who would they be?
My husband, his mother, and his father. My husband's parents died before we met. I'd love to meet them and thank them for raising such a wonderful person. He's a man of God, a supportive husband, a loving & attentive father, a great friend, and an all-around great person. I'd also love for them to meet our girls. His side of the family says our youngest, Ryan, is the spitting image of his mother.
9.) What is in your fridge right now?
I just went to the grocery store so it's full right now. Almond milk, cheese, yogurt, sliced turkey, honey-crisp apples (my favorite) and the pasta with shrimp I cooked last night.
10.) If you could have a different career, other then what you're doing now, what would it be?
I'd be a singer! I wonder if Auto-Tune could help me?
The people I profile are based on your suggestions. Please feel free to let me know who you would like to hear from or what you think about the segment.
