TAMPA - The local affiliate of Susan G. Komen, called the Florida Suncoast affiliate, raises money year-round, in part from benefit runs and walks. Some of that money is funneled into programs providing free mammograms and breast cancer treamtment.
The free screenings and treatment are only for those with little or no insurance and considered low-income. Each program varies slightly in what is considered low-income. Free services are provided in Hillsborough, Manatee, Pasco, Pinellas, Polk and Sarasota counties. To find out if you qualify, please call 1-877-506-6927.
So far this year, the Florida Suncoast Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure Grant Program has awarded more than $1 million to 15 local organizations for screening, breast health education and treatment for the undeserved and uninsured.
