TAMPA - Like many of us women, Karen Townsend likes to be pampered. "I think most women want to be spoiled," she said, smiling.
Ben Schmid thought so too. So, with his partners he launched Spoil Me Now. The website is similar to Groupon or Living Social, websites that offer services and products at a reduced cost.
Spoil Me Now has one major difference that separates it from the rest. "A lot of the daily deal websites out there try to be everything to everyone, whereas we are speaking directly to women," said Schmid.
The site offers deals from housecleaning to tanning to fine wines. Another advantage for Schmid and his team -- they grew up in Tampa.
"We feel like we know what type of businesses women will respond to and what women will want to go to," Schmid explained. "Being from Tampa, we know where all of them are."
Spoil Me Now immediately reached out to Gina Logan. She owns Bangz Salon, a staple on Kennedy Boulevard for more than three decades. Logan ran a deal on the website. The idea of targeting women reeled her in.
"I think it is great they are the only ones out there that I know of that caters to female services so I think the concept is great," Logan said.
Ben agrees and can't help smiling about why else he feels the company will have an edge: The catchy name.
"Women like to be spoiled right now, and we feel like it made sense," Schmid said.
If Karen's reaction is any indication, Schmid may be on to something. As soon as she heard the name of this latest deal-getting website, she said she couldn't wait to go home and sign up because she wants to be spoiled and right now.
"It's wonderful! It catches my attention!" Townsend exclaimed.
