TAMPA, FL – Kids all over the Bay area are getting ready for an overdose of candy. An evening of trick-or-treating hardly ever ends with anything that is healthy.

This morning, Chef John from La Maison Gourmet in Dunedin is whipping up a fun dish that’s healthy and will have your children asking for more. He calls them Spicy, Bloody, Gator Bites.

Ingredients:

2lb. peeled and deveined shrimp, tail off
1 cup flour
1 can (14oz) Tomato Sauce
cajun seasoning
Salt and Pepper
1 cup vegetable oil

Directions:

Cut the shrimp into bite sized pieces.  Toss them in the flour, shake off excess. At the same time, heat the tomato sauce in a small saucepan over medium heat and add cajun seasoning, salt and pepper to taste.

Next, place the vegetable oil in a large saute pan over medium high heat until shimmering.  Fry the shrimp until golden brown, turning as necessary.  Remove and place them on paper towels and hold warm.

When you’re ready to serve them, arrange the shrimp in the center of the platter and drizzle tomato sauce to resemble blood on top.

When you serve them tell the kids they’re having Spicy, Bloody, Gator Bites and enjoy!
