TAMPA BAY, Fla. - Here are five things you need to know happening in Florida on Wednesday, May 25.
(1) Casey Anthony trial: Day 2
Wednesday is day 2 of the Casey Anthony murder trial in Orlando.
During opening arguments on Tuesday, Casey Anthony's attorney, Jose Baez, stunned observers telling the jury that little Caylee Anthony drowned in her family's swimming pool and that Casey was abused by her father, George Anthony, when she was in elementary school.
George Anthony was the first witness prosecutors called to the stand when testimony began. He denied the allegations he abused Casey.
Casey Anthony is facing first degree murder charges in the death of her daughter, Caylee, in 2008. If convicted, she could be sentenced to death.
(2) UCF Deepwater Horizon oil spill presentation
Scientists from Florida's universities and marine research institutions will be at the University of Central Florida for a two-day public presentation beginning on Wednesday. They will discuss the latest findings how last year's Deepwater Horizon oil spill is impacting the Gulf of Mexico's ecosystem.
This will be the first time scientists who are members of the Florida Institute of Oceanography have collectively gathered to present their data.
Twenty-seven research projects spanning a variety of potential impacts of the oil were funded last year with $10 million provided by BP. A complete list of research projects can be found here .
The event will be held at the Fairwinds Alumni Center. Presentations will begin today at 3:00 p.m.
Additional information on the Florida Institute of Oceanography, its member institutions and the BP-funded projects can be found at fio.usf.edu .
(3) Bruins vs. Lightning game 6
The Tampa Bay Lightning will try to avoid being eliminated from the NHL playoffs on Wednesday when they take on the Boston Bruins at the St. Pete Times Forum.
In game 5 on Monday night, the Bruins beat the Lightning 3-1 at the TD Garden. Boston goaltender Tim Thomas made 33 saves keeping the potent Tampa Bay offense to just a single first period goal.
Lightning coach Guy Boucher announced he will go with Dwayne Roloson in the net for game 6. Roloson had been pulled in games 3 and 4 but has a 6-0 lifetime record in playoff elimination games.
