TAMPA BAY, Fla. - Here are five things you need to know happening in Florida on Wednesday, May 18.
(1) Hillsborough Veterans assistance fees
Hillsborough County commissioners will discuss a proposal for an ordinance banning fees for veterans' assistance at their meeting on Wednesday.
It against federal law to charge for aiding a veteran seeking assistance from the government. Congressman Gus Bilirakis is re-introducing legislation in Congress this year that would include fines and a year in prison for violating the law.
But Hillsborough County Commissioner Mark Sharpe isn't waiting around for Congress to act.
After a veteran's advocate showed him ABC Action News' I-TEAM investigation, Sharpe scheduled a hearing for 11:00 a.m. today for proposed ordinance for Hillsborough County.
"I'll be asking our staff to bring us back recommendations on exactly how it will be enforced and what the penalty will be," said Sharp. "But our objective will be to make it clear to any company that you cannot continue to do business in our county if you are in any way unlawfully preying on veterans. I hope they put them out of business."
Dave Braun, Ombudsman for the Hillsborough County Veterans Council and veterans advocate Tom Fletcher will be appearing before the commission members at today's hearing.

(2) Hyundai Hope on Wheels
Tampa-area Hyundai dealers and Hyundai Hope on Wheels will award St. Joseph's Hospitals Foundation with a Hyundai Scholar Grant in the amount of $50,000 for pediatric cancer research on Wednesday.
Hyundai Scholar grants go toward funding new pediatric cancer research projects and are presented during a Hope on Wheels Handprint Ceremony. Tampa-area children affected by cancer will place their handprints in colorful paint on a 2011 Hyundai Santa Fe to commemorate their brave battles with cancer.
The hand-painting ceremony takes at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph's Hospitals Foundation on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in Tampa.

(3) Ride of Silence
In 2010 twelve people were killed in traffic crashes while riding their bicycles in Hillsborough County. On Wednesday cyclists will remember those killed during a Ride of Silence.
The solemn ride, much like a funeral procession, will begin at Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park in downtown Tampa at 7:00 p.m. Bicyclists will ride 11.1 miles through Tampa passing the spots where three of last year's victims were struck.
Participants are asked to ride in silence without talking and wear armbands - black to remember cyclists who have been killed in traffic crashes, red to remember cyclists who have been injured.
There is no entry fee but all cyclists must wear bike helmets and sign a release of liability. Because the ride may continue past sunset, all bicycles should be equipped with a head light and tail light as required by Florida law.

(4) SADD teen drinking and driving exercise
With high school prom season here once again, Tampa Bay safety officials are holding exercises for teenagers to show the dangers of drinking and driving.
Pinellas County Sheriff's deputies and the East Lake High School SADD chapter are conducting a fatality crash exercise in Tarpon Springs on Wednesday.
Members from the Sheriff's Office, East Lake Fire Rescue, Sunstar EMS and Bayflight will demonstrate the dangers of driving while drunk on the school's football field for the junior and senior classes.
Students will see the fatal potential of teen drinking and driving as a student driver and passengers become crash victims. The intent by safety officials is to make the incident as real as possible.
Today's DUI accident exercise begins at 10:30 a.m. For more information, visit www.sadd.org .
(5) Meet the Disney on Ice stars
The smash-hit Disney on Ice presents Disney/Pixar's Toy Story 3 will be at the St. Pete Times Forum on Wednesday and Sunday.
Before the movie characters take to the ice though, you have an opportunity to meet them up close.
Stars from the sensational show will visit with families at Tampa's Glazer Children's Museum beginning at 3:00 p.m. today.
The event is free for museum attendees (with general admission or museum membership). For more information, visit glazermuseum.org .
