TAMPA, Fla. - Here are five things you need to know happening in Florida on Tuesday, August 21.

(1) Hillsborough County first day of school

The majority of public school students in Hillsborough County return to classrooms on Tuesday for the start of the 2012-13 school year.

The exception is for children attending Rampello Downtown Partnership K-8 School in downtown Tampa. They returned a week ago. Rampello will be closed next week due to its proximity to the Republican National Convention.

Students in Polk, Pasco, Pinellas, Hernando, Manatee and Sarasota Counties started school on Monday.

The last day of classes for students in Hillsborough County is June 7. To view the 2012-2013 school year calendar, visit www.sdhc.k12.fl.us/info/calendars/ .

(2) Lakeland 2013 budget town hall meeting

The City of Lakeland City Commission will hold the first of two public town hall meetings on Tuesday to discuss the Fiscal Year 2013 budget and possible funding methods for a proposed fire station in the southwest quadrant of Lakeland.

The Southwest Lakeland Fire Station is scheduled to be constructed in 2017, but a number of City Commissioners want to start construction in 2013.

City officials want input on whether to build the fire station and how to fund its capital and operating costs. One proposal would raise the property tax millage rate by .5 mills.

Tonight's town hall meeting starts at 6:00 p.m. at the Sandpiper Golf Club Clubhouse at 6001 Sandpipers Drive in Lakeland.

A second town hall meeting will take place at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday at Cleveland Heights Golf Course.

For more information on the town hall meetings, call (863) 834-6264.

(3) Aimee Streeter arraignment

Aimee Streeter is scheduled to be officially arraigned on attempted first degree murder charges in Polk County on Tuesday.

The Polk County Sheriff's Office says Streeter shot her ex-boyfriend, Tabarri Clayton, and his fiancée Janice Lucas on July 15.

Deputies say Streeter was upset she did not get any money Clayton and Lucas received in a malpractice lawsuit they filed after their child died.

Streeter was arrested in Alabama one day after the shootings. Prosecutors say claim she drove to Polk City, shot Lucas five times and waited for Clayton to come home before shooting him.

Lucas survived after playing dead.

The arraignment hearing is scheduled for 8:15 a.m.

(4) Obama for America opens new Florida offices

Obama for America-Florida will expand its operations in Florida this week by opening thirteen field offices beginning on Tuesday.

The first field office to open is located at 129 South Pebble Beach Boulevard in Sun City Center. It will open tonight at 6:00 p.m.

Offices will also open in Cape Coral, Jacksonville, Titusville, Fort Pierce, Lakeland, Summerfield, Fort Myers, Palm City, Spring Hill, Hialeah, Port Charlotte and Wellington.

Volunteers and supporters will use the field offices to coordinate local campaign operations. They will go block-by-block and neighborhood-by-neighborhood to grow support for President Obama's re-election campaign.

(5) RNC media briefing and Reince Priebus greeting

Final preparations are underway for next week's Republican National Convention.

On Tuesday, the 2012 Tampa Bay Host Committee for the Republican National Convention will host its final press briefing in the week leading up to the Convention. Committee members are scheduled to discuss current issues and upcoming matters.

The media briefing will take place at 10:00 a.m. at Tropicana Field.

Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus will be in Tampa today to greet volunteers. Priebus will talk about presumed Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney's plan to strengthen the middle class and protect and preserve Medicare.

Chairman Priebus will speak at 2:30 p.m. at the South Tampa Victory Office at 4465 Gandy Boulevard.
